how to juggle with Three balls?

Everyone want to learn how to juggle with 3 balls! But if you don’t have the right guidance it may be almost impossible to learn it.
There are some critical secrets you have to know before start practicing. In this post I will share with of you the basic principles you have to know before you start to juggle with 3 balls.

3 balls is the most popular juggling instrument in the world, this is how people see juggling. Also mastering 3 balls is quite cool and beneficial.
it takes some time to really master it because the movement is not that easy for beginners. We need to work on our technique and timing until your hand will make the right movement automatically.
But don’t worry with my guidance and your patience we will learn it in no time!
Make sure that you already read my post about how to start juggling before reading this post.

The equipment

There are many kinds of juggling balls, the main two are:
  • Beanbags – balls that are stuffed with millet, rice or poder
  • Silicon

Every ball has its own advantage and disadvantage, it all about getting used to it.
I personally recommend starting with good beanbags which are more comfortable to beginners. What I really don’t recommend is to start with jumping balls like tennis you will find yourself chasing them instead of practicing

Where you should practice?

I recommend on practicing in specious place or above your bed so if the balls fall you won't break your back by lifting them back.

The basic move

The basic pattern of 3 balls called – Cascade. This movement looks easy but it quite hard to adjust, we need to work hard to customize our body and hands to make it.
The best way to gain juggling skills is to understand the very basic movement and then adding more complex movements.

Basic position

  • This is a basic juggling position:
  • Elbows close to the waist
  • Hands are open with 45 degree diagonal
  • Legs are in line with the shoulders

Throwing principals:

When we will throw the ball we need to pay attention to the following:
  • Hand throw movement: the hand starts to move from outside our body to form the shape of a semicircle then smile - when we finish this half-circle movement, we throw the ball.
  • Ball movement: the ball should move in only 2 dimensions: horizontal (right-left) and vertical (up-down).
    • Vertical/height : the ball should be aligned above our forehand
    • Horizon/distance: the ball should land exactly on the other palm!

Common mistakes:

  • Throwing outside circle – do not make an outside throw as seen in cartoons.
  • Throwing front to back – do not throw your ball front-to-back.
  • Spring throw – do not throw your ball up and down.
  • Catching above – don’t try to catch the ball before it lands - let it land on your palm.
  • Weaker hand – you probably will have more difficulties succeeding the pattern with your weaker hand than with your strong hand - keep practicing at it.
  • Body movement - your legs and shoulders shouldn’t move to catch the ball - make sure you stand in the same place.
try to clap your hands while juggling :)

Why do we throw like that?

It is super important to make the most perfect pattern you can. Here are the reasons why we must do that:
  • Tricks: in many of the tricks we will learn we must control the height and the horizontal throw.  The tricks are based on the cascade pattern.
  • Nicer! We want to keep the throw horizontal and clear so the people in front of us could see the whole trick we will make.

Extra Tips before starting:

  • Basic above all - go back to basic when you have trouble.
  • Mind the throw - the throw is more important than the catch itself. remember if you will throw correctly you will probably catch it.
  • Imagine and visualize the throw beforehand.
